A Cowes Roofing Rescue: Putting Right What the Cowboys Left Behind

A shocking mainland botch-job leads to a full roof rescue by Moose Roofing & Building in Cowes.
TL;DR
- Home in Fellows Road, Cowes suffered major leaks after a poor-quality “repair”.
- Mainland contractors charged £8k for work that was unsafe and poorly built.
- Moose Roofing replaced the entire section properly for half the cost.
- Faulty joists, bad tiling and unsafe workmanship all corrected.
- A reminder to always check Google reviews before choosing a contractor.
Last month, the Moose Roofing team were called out to Fellows Road in Cowes to look at a roof that had been “repaired” only weeks earlier. The homeowners weren’t convinced the job had been done properly, and as soon as we arrived, it was clear why.
The property—a three-bedroom terraced home with around 829 square feet of living space—was suffering from major water ingress. Rainwater was finding its way through the roof and straight into the loft space; severe leaks and an unhappy homeowner!
What we found...
When a ‘Repair’ Makes Things Worse
The previous contractors, who had travelled over from the mainland, charged around £8,000 to replace what should have been a small section of roof and a few joists.
Unfortunately, the work they left behind was nothing short of shocking. Poorly aligned tiles, improperly supported joists, and gaps you could spot from the pavement—none of it met even the most basic standard.
After we took a closer look, it became clear the whole section needed to come out. Patch-ups weren’t going to cut it.
What Moose Roofing Delivered
Our team stripped the faulty work, replaced the compromised joists, and installed a properly built, watertight section of roof that’ll stand up to Isle of Wight weather for years to come. And here’s the kicker—we completed the entire job for half the cost of the botched repair.
It’s always frustrating to see homeowners misled or overcharged, especially when the results put their property at risk. But it’s exactly why we take so much pride in doing things properly from the start. No shortcuts. No corner-cutting. Just honest, reliable work.

A Friendly Reminder for Homeowners
Before committing to any major building or roofing project, it’s worth taking a couple of minutes to check a company’s Google reviews. A solid track record speaks volumes, and it can help you avoid the stress—and the bill—of having to fix someone else's poor workmanship.
Moose Roofing & Building has built its reputation on trust, quality, and proper craftsmanship. Whether it’s a small repair or a full replacement, we’ll always make sure you get the standard of work your home deserves.
